Bernard Collet, constructed photographs: Inspired by geometric abstraction, these photographic works are animated by the same careful rigidity that makes them comparable to current reflections on movement in the paintings of “L’Art Construit”. These image collected from throughout the entire world, or at times simply from France, answer to the same quest, to the same demand, all while allowing a different breath to appear in each one, native to its original climate. Ordinary Spaces The topic, in this series, is to create a sort of novel through photographs (a photographic novel) of social culture. The sites, shown are without any living presence but contain strong human traces (offices, waiting rooms, studios, bathrooms, washrooms, etc…) are not dramatic in and of themselves, but are transparent in their banality. They don’t deserve to even be looked at. And they rarely are. And yet each cliché that isolates and underlines these day to day and ordinary places from our lives is given its own existence and dramatized in its frame. The eye, having no physical character present to fix on, is free to leisurely stroll through the décor which has been created without any thought towards a second degree.
